Mazeej Balad Boutique Hotel proudly marked a special moment in its journey with the award of One Michelin Key in 2025, an international recognition that celebrates uniquely characteristic hospitality experiences and places Downtown Cairo firmly on the global map.
Developed by Al Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment, designed by acclaimed interior designer Malak Orfy, and operated by GnK, Mazeej Balad is set within the restored La Viennoise building, a late nineteenth-century landmark in Downtown Cairo, and is home to five individually curated suites.
The hotel features five uniquely curated suites, each inspired by figures who embody the city’s cosmopolitan spirit, from artists and musicians to cultural pioneers and historical personalities. The rooftop restaurant, offering panoramic views of the city, provides guests with a destination that combines exquisite dining with an ambiance steeped in history.
“Mazeej was never imagined as a conventional hotel. It was conceived as a home with stories, a place where guests could experience Downtown in a more intimate and personal way. The design, atmosphere, and narrative of the space were shaped with care, and this recognition affirms the value of approaching hospitality through emotion, character, and place,” said Karim Shafei, Chairman and CEO of Al Ismaelia for Real Estate Investment.
Beyond its rooms, Mazeej Balad reflects Al Ismaelia’s broader ambition to redefine hospitality in Downtown Cairo. The hotel offers visitors an entry point into the district’s rhythms, architecture, and everyday life, demonstrating how thoughtful restoration can support both cultural identity and contemporary living.
As part of Al Ismaelia’s growing hospitality portfolio, Mazeej Balad represents a shift toward experiential stays that celebrate character, storytelling, and a deep sense of place within the heart of the city.
